Happy Earth Day!

The Jr. High Service group has prepared a bag for each family to take home today. The bag includes a letter and information about our school’s TerraCycle Program. Please consider filling your bag with recyclable items and returning it to school. God gave us the precious gift of this Earth. Please help us to take good care of it.

Important Legal Notice
We consider it our duty to communicate the following information to parish members, the school community and other donors.  Epiphany parish signed a contract in May 2013 to replace the K-3 roof, with the approval of the Diocese of Peoria.  In November 2013, a Lien in the amount of $70,926.09 was filed against the church because the contractor had failed to pay the vendor for any of the materials.  The church had promptly made all contractual payments to the contractor.  We were unaware of problems until the vendor filed the Lien.  The Diocese does not permit Liens to remain on church properties.  Since the contractor refused any attempt to resolve the matter either with us or our legal counsel, and broke off communication in December 2013, the parish was forced to negotiate with the vendor and settled the Lien for $58,500.00 on March 5, 2014.  Furthermore, it became evident after inspection that the contractor had left the project unfinished, and with some areas needing repair.  It will cost $20,293.70 to finish the K-3 roof.  Finally, the parish is working with diocesan insurance to cover a cleanup bill (from a summer rain storm) of $7,533.03 that the contractor has refused to pay.  Please be assured that it is our intention to pursue every avenue to recover parish losses from the contractor.  It should be noted that the above mentioned expenses were taken from parish reserves and not from the school budget or any parish or school program.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
